How And What You Should Be Eating While Taking Steroids Or Prohormones

If you’re considering taking steroids or prohormones, odds are you are either trying to get stronger or want to gain some more muscle. But, unfortunately for many steroid users, weight gain comes along with that. Some people say this is inevitable, others believe that yes, it’s possible to achieve the mythical trifecta of getting stronger, gaining muscle, and losing fat if you have the proper diet. Regardless of which camp you’re in, we steroid/prohormone users can all use some more information on how we should and shouldn’t be dieting. Here’s our guide to what you should be eating while taking steroids or prohormones.

Eating Right While Cycling

“You are what you eat” is an age-old saying that is just as true for steroid and prohormone users as it is for everyone else. Many steroid/prohormone users neglect the importance of dieting while cycling. Steroids and prohormones are, in large part, what you make them. And, depending on your diet, you can end up having either strong, solid gains or flabby, short-lived ones. Either you are running a cycle for bulking or for cutting. And that’s the first question you need to ask yourself. The answer will have a significant impact on what foods (and quantities of those foods) you should and shouldn’t be eating.

Bulking

If you’re taking steroids with the primary aim of gaining muscle mass (i.e. “bulking”), you have to keep an eye on your body fat. Because, unless you’re careful, the additional calories you’re consuming will come with unwanted, additional fat. You need to strictly calculate your daily calorie needs and keep fat percentage under control. Be aware the more carbs and fats you eat, the more fat you will gain. You need to eat more if you’re looking to bulk up while taking steroids/prohormones, but you want to make sure you’re are going about it the right way.

Proteins are by far the most important nutrients when it comes to growing and building your muscles. But not all proteins are created equal. You should be getting your protein from lean meats, fish, eggs, and milk products. You have to use one of these sources on each meal throughout the whole day. We suggest eating about 1.5 grams of protein for every pound you weigh. So, for example, if you weigh 200lbs then you should be eating at least 300 grams of protein per day.

In total, you should consume about 4,500 calories per day during a bulking cycle. And those calories should be broken up as follows: 30% protein, 50% carbs, and 20% fats.

Cutting

If you want to get shredded you will have to burn fat. And this means that you will have to decrease your daily caloric intake and increase the amount of protein you’re eating. If you’re trying to burn fat, you shouldn’t be consuming many carbs. If, however, you do consume carbs, you should do so in the morning when your body triggers the catabolic process, before the workout for getting energy, and after it to replenish glycogen level. Unsaturated fats from fish, nuts, etc. also play a very important role in helping you get shredded.  If you’re looking to burn fat or add only lean muscle mass, the total number of calories you should be consuming is far less than what you should be eating if you’re bulking. We suggest aiming for about 2,000-2,500 calories per day and the food breakdown should be more protein-focused: 50% protein, 25% carbs, and 25% fats.
