Getting More Out Of Your Steroids: Why You Should Lose Weight First

Some people seem to think that you can just sit on the couch, take steroids, and voilà look like Arnold Schwarzenegger. But it doesn’t work that way. Your cycles are what you make them and there are things you can do to make them either more or less effective. Here’s our guide to getting more out of your steroids: why you should lose weight first.

When To Take Steroids

If you’re wondering if you should you lose weight first, before starting a steroid or prohormone cycle, the answer is yes. There are some steroids that can help you lose weight, but the vast majority will make you heavier.

The idea when taking steroids or prohormones is that the majority of the weight you gain is muscle mass. But, it’s inevitable that some of it will be fat. Why? Because you are and should be consuming a good deal more calories per day while you’re taking steroids than when you’re not. With additional calories comes additional weight, and with additional weight comes some additional fat.

The majority of bodybuilders don’t particularly worry about this while they’re cycling because they understand that it’s important to determine pre-cycle what they are going for: bulking or cutting. If you are taking steroids to bulk up and build muscle, then you shouldn’t worry about gaining a little fat. You can always lose the fat once you’ve finished bulking up and, hopefully, keep the extra muscle as well. But this is true only for people who start with low body fat, around 19% or less. If, on the other hand, you are overweight with a body-fat percentage of 25% or higher, then you should wait to start your cycle until after you’ve shed some fat. A fat guy on steroids will look like a fat guy on steroids. He’ll be stronger, yes. But, to the naked eye, there won’t be much of a difference in his appearance.

How To Burn Body Fat

You should focus on your body mass index (BMI), which is a measure of body fat in adults, not your weight on the scale. You definitely want to have a BMI of less than 25% and, ideally, if you’re really trying to look good, 15% or less. Okay, so how do you burn fat?

Get More Sleep

You can’t overstate the value of sleep. In one of the medicines all-time largest and most comprehensive studies, the University Of Oxford studied the sleeping patterns of over half-a-million Brits to determine what was the minimum amount of sleep people need. The answer was between 7-8 hours. But you need at least 7. Some will say “yes, well that may be true for the average person. But not for me! I’m a superhuman!” Don’t worry, the study controlled for self-proclaimed superhumans who believed they didn’t need a full 7 hours worth of sleep. Want to guess the percentage of people who were able to survive on less than 7 hours of sleep without any negative physical side-effects? Zero. 0% of people can survive on less than 7 hours of sleep without any negative physical side-effects. So listen to your mother, and don’t be naive. Get to bed!

Eat More Protein

You should limit the number of carbs you’re eating per day and get the majority of your calories from protein. Percentage wise you should try and consumer about 50% of your calories from protein, 25% from fats, and 25% or less from carbs.

Drink Cold Water

We all know it’s good to drink water. But, for fat burning, it’s specifically good to drink cold water. Why? Because your body needs to burn extra calories to digest it which, if you’re trying to lose weight, is a good thing.
